Cheap and 18 is an oxymoron. Add CA to the mix and it gets worse. Then factor in an almost new car…
Here is some more detailed info about it -

Try Progressive or Dairyland. Your age plus the new car is an expensive combination no matter how you look at it. Keep your record clear, that will help.

You might move to Burbank because their zip code has a better rate.
I would call the insurance company that your parents have ( if possible) and get your insurance with them.
Shop around. Ask for the following discounts, multi-car, multi-line, California Good Driver and Good student. And, ask them if they have any other discounts.
How close are you to being 19? When you have your license for 3 years you get California Good Driver Discount as long as you only have 0 or only 1 point on your record. And, if you are a male you pay higher rates than females do.
Shop around. And, ask for all those discounts.

Car insurance market is very competitive nowadays. So if you are ready to spend about half a day on computer and telephone, finally you’ll be able to find an appropriate rate.
Here is what you suppose to do:
1. You should obtain multiple car insurance quotes online. Here are just some of these sites, I’m sure there are many more:
http://www.autoinsurance.24by7info.com
http://www.wisepages.com/money/insurance/index.html
2. Even if you’ll find some attractive rates online, do not rush to sing in. Keep these numbers in mind and call your local insurance broker. Describe your situation to him and wait for his numbers.
3. Compare all quotes you’ll get online and from your broker and make your mind. However still do not rush to sing in.
4. You have to know that company, which is offering you a good rate is indeed a reputable company. http://www.AMbest is an independent rater of all insurance companies. If company, which is offering you good quotation is rated A or higher by AM best it is a good company. If it’s rated below A, I’d think twice before signing with them.
